Thomas A. Fanning is retiring as Executive Chairman and from the Board of Directors of The Southern Company, and Christopher C. Womack is elected as the new Chairman of the Board. Fanning will enter into a consulting agreement with Southern Company Services, Inc. for national security and energy policy consulting services.
